The Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble presents a very special evening featuring master singer and percussionist Edgardo Cambon! Originally from Uruguay, Mr. Cambon has been blessing the Bay Area with his musical talent for over three decades. This concert will feature original and rarely performed music that has been specifically prepared for the group, including an authentic presentation of the Uruguayan Candombe rhythm using the traditional drums.
Mr. Cambon is that rare musician who excels at the highest level both as a vocalist and percussionist. Experienced at many forms of Latin music, he has had a profound impact on the Bay Area music scene. He is the founder and visionary of the group Candela, which has delighted audiences for many years. In addition, he has performed and toured throughout South America, Europe, and Africa, working with Jesús “Chucho” Valdés, Eddie Palmieri, Carlos Santana, and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana. Edgardo's free Latin percussion educational videos have reached millions of viewers worldwide on YouTube.
