Lessons

Welcome to the Lessons page. All Applied Music lessons at Stanford are subject to a lesson fee in addition to tuition. There is some financial support available for lessons from Friends of Music at Stanford on a sliding scale. Visit the Applied Music Fees and Policies page for more details.

If you are new to Stanford, you will have to audition, regardless of whether or not you submitted a supplemental audition. Be prepared to play études, a sonata, a concerto excerpt, or anything else that demonstrates your abilities. Consult the proficiency requirements column for each item to see if you currently play at the minimum level at which we expect students to perform. Some instrument areas have an audition link; others are simply by arrangement with the instructor. To sign up for lessons in winter or spring quarter, you must contact the faculty member directly.

ALL MATRICULATED STANFORD STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER FOR LESSONS. A Zero-Unit Enrollment option has been created for graduate students and for students unable to enroll in lessons or ensembles. Review our Zero Unit Enrollment policy to learn how to enroll.
