Ensembles

The Department of Music hosts many performing ensembles and combos. Participation is not limited to Music majors, but auditions are required. (Note to frosh: the Arts Portfolio process is unrelated to auditions.) Some ensembles are open to community members. If you are new to Stanford, please audition with us!

Be prepared to play études, a sonata, a concerto excerpt, or anything else that demonstrates your abilities. For audition information in Winter or Spring Quarter, contact the individual ensemble directors via email, though students who want to audition for chamber music in any quarter are encouraged to audition in autumn quarter.

Audition signups for Autumn Quarter can be found here:

For instrumentalists, be prepared to play études, a sonata, a concerto excerpt, or anything else that demonstrates your abilities.

For singers, auditions consist of vocalizing (with piano support) to determine range and evaluate vowel formation, pitch and rhythm memory exercises, sight singing, and a solo song.

For audition information in Winter or Spring Quarter, contact the individual ensemble directors via email, though students who want to audition for chamber music in any quarter are encouraged to audition in Autumn Quarter.
