Stanford Wind Symphony

The annual Halloween Concert by the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Wind Symphony will include Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries", Saint-Saëns's Danse macabre, Howard Shore's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring suite, and much more. Plus, the ever-popular Costume Competition, making this a concert you won't want to miss!

Russ Gavin

Dr. Russell Gavin is the Dr. Arthur P. Barnes Director of Bands at Stanford University. Gavin holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Florida State University, a Master of Music in Euphonium Performance from the University of Notre Dame, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Auburn University. His public school teaching experiences include Director of Bands/Fine Arts Chair at Eufaula High School (Eufaula, AL) and Director of Bands at South Girard Middle School (Phenix City, AL).

Giancarlo Aquilanti directs the Stanford Wind Symphony's summer tour preview in Bing Concert Hall. The Wind Symphony will be playing this repertoire in Italy and Spain later this month.

Giancarlo Aquilanti directs the Stanford Wind Symphony's Winter program in Bing Concert Hall, with guest Martín Fraile conducting selections from Argentina. Jake Gold is the featured horn soloist for Strauss's Horn Concerto No. 1.

Giancarlo Aquilanti directs the Stanford Wind Symphony's program in Bing Concert Hall. Composer Kamyar Mohajer will be present at the concert to hear his work, Reminiscence — a combination of Eastern modality and a unique approach to harmony, counterpoint, and polytonality.
