Richard Vandivier
A Graduate of the Berklee School of Music, Instrumental Performance Arts, Boston, Mr. Vandivier also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Jazz Performance from San José State University. Mr. Vandivier has over thirty years of public appearances with such artists as David Grisman, Richie Cole, Smith Dobson, Albert "Tootie Heath," John Stowell, Bruce Forman, John Handy, Mose Allison, and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Mr. Vandivier has also worked with the San José Symphony Orchestra as well as the orchestras of the American Musical Theater of San José, the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, Opera San José, and Theatreworks Silicon Valley. Mr. Vandivier’s musical journey has been highlighted by concerts at the North Sea Jazz Festival, The Berlin Jazz Festival, the San Jose Jazz Festival, as well as performances at the Chicago Opera House, the Wilshire Theatre in Los Angeles, INSAAC in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, Africa, the Berklee Performance Center in Boston, the Great American Music Hall, the Seattle Opera House, and the NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art and Carnegie Hall. As leader, Mr. Vandivier has produced three albums of jazz and original music. Serving as co-producer with vocalist Nate Pruitt, the team has recorded three albums as Primary Colors. In addition, Mr. Vandivier is active with various other artist performances, collaborative adventures, and album productions. Mr. Vandivier is happy to have had a long association with the Stanford community, including several years of teaching at the Stanford Jazz Workshop.
