Poppy Crum
Poppy Crum, PhD is a technologist, neuroscientist, industry executive, and investor who has designed innovations and led technology development teams at the intersection of human experience and performance, sensory systems, and technology optimization across various industries including: entertainment, health, automotive, sports, and industrial technology.
Poppy is Founder/President of Goby Technologies - a development and strategy consulting group that works with industry leadership teams on development topics related to the role of technology and AI in modern digital twins and human-technology innovation and evolution across customer products and human performance. Poppy is also Managing Director at Giant Step Capital. Poppy is the former Chief Scientist for Dolby Laboratories and Chief Technology Officer for Trimble Inc. At Stanford, her focus has been on the human-technology interface with immersive sensory and augmented systems on neuroplasticity and human performance.
Poppy is author on numerous patents in areas that span: augmented sensory systems, content authoring and delivery, methods for personalization of technologies, consumer and industrial device sensing, and algorithmic transformations and optimizations for situational intelligence.
She is a U.S. vice-chair to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and chair of the AI/Advanced Immersive Systems working group. She is a Board Member of the Consumer Technology Association, and a former member of the Defense Science Research Council (DSRC) of DARPA.
Prior to her work in industry Poppy was Research Faculty as a neurophysiologist in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine focused on auditory sensory pathways.
Poppy is a recipient of the: Hedy Lemarr award for Technology Innovation from the Digital Entertainment Group, Advanced Imaging Society’s Lumiere Technology Leadership Award, Consumer Technology Association’s Technology and Standards Achievement Award for strategic and standards development work towards the introduction of over-the-counter hearing-aid devices, and a Fellow of the Audio Engineering Society, Member of the Recording Academy, and has been named to: Billboard Magazine’s Power Women list in the music industry, and TV-Technology's 20 to Watch List Changing the Industry.
