Nate Sloan is a PhD candidate in musicology at Stanford University and a Geballe Dissertation Fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center. He also has an AB in music from Brown University. His research interests include jazz, Tin Pan Alley, and urban geography. He is an instructor at the California Jazz Conservatory, and has written music and lyrics for two musicals and scored several films, including the award-winning short documentary SLOMO. He is co-host of the music theory podcast Switched on Pop and writes on music for academic and popular journals.
