Benjamin Liupaogo
Benjamin Liupaogo is a Lecturer in Vocal Studies in the Department of Music at Stanford University, where he is dedicated to the development of expressive, technically grounded, and collaborative singers. A proud Pacific Islander of Samoan heritage, he is an accomplished tenor, collaborative pianist, and educator whose work spans opera, concert, choral, chamber, and sacred music throughout the United States and Europe.
As a professional singer, Benjamin is a tenor with the Grammy Award–winning San Francisco Symphony Chorus (AGMA) and a regular AGMA Extra Chorus member of the San Francisco Opera Chorus. He also performs with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale and the Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, and has appeared with ensembles including American Bach Soloists and Volti.
From 2017 to 2019, Benjamin was a Young Artist with Madison Opera, where he sang and covered principal roles. His international experience includes serving as assistant director and vocal coach with Musica nelle Marche, a summer opera program based in Urbino, Italy, where he performed and coached extensively throughout the country from 2017 to 2022.
In addition to his performance career, Benjamin maintains a broad professional profile as a collaborative pianist, vocal coach, répétiteur, and music director in opera, musical theatre, choral, and sacred music. His academic and artistic collaborations have included work with Boston University Tanglewood Institute, San Francisco State University, University of San Francisco, DePaul University, Roosevelt University, North Park University, University of Notre Dame, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, as well as numerous youth choral organizations.
Benjamin holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from San Francisco State University, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Roosevelt University, and a Master of Sacred Music from the University of Notre Dame. He earned a Graduate Performance Certificate in Opera from DePaul University and is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance, with a minor in Collaborative Piano, at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
In service to the broader vocal and cultural community, Benjamin serves as Co–Vice President for Student Auditions for the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (SFBAC–NATS) and sits on the board of the Samoan Community Development Center (SCDC), supporting cultural engagement, mentorship, and the amplification of Pacific Islander voices across the Bay Area.
