Graduation Year:
Dissertation Title:
The Nominal and the Noumenal: 2 cycles of works for various ensembles

Since September 2012, I have been Assistant Professor of Composition at Keimyung University in Daegu, Korea.  From September 2015, I will be Associate Professor of Music at the recently-established International College of Liberal Arts (iCLA) of Yamanashi Gakuin University in Kofu, Japan. In this role, I will be leading and coordinating the music program, and offering a diverse array of courses and workshops.

In 2013-2014, I undertook a musical research residency at IRCAM in Paris, collaborating with the Sound Perception and Design research team and German product designer Matthias Megyeri on this project:   A book chapter on our project, to be published in a volume dedicated to music information retrieval for creative applications, is forthcoming.

Other recent artist residencies have included Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart), Djerassi Resident Artist Program (Woodside, CA), Paul Dresher Ensemble Artist Residency Center (Oakland, CA), and Gullkistan (Iceland).

Over the past year,  I have received commissions from Fonema Consort (Chicago), Duo Harpverk (Reykjavik), Discord Workshop (Belgium), Ensemble Modelo62 (Netherlands), guitarist Nico Couck, percussionist Eric Derr, and pianist Frederick Croene, among others. Nominal/Noumenal, my first portrait recording, was released on Carrier Records in 2012:

My violin and electronics piece VURTRUVURT has been included on New York-based violinist/violist Miranda Cuckson's solo CD Melting the Darkness, released in November 2014 on the Urlicht Audiovisual label. A 5.1 surround Blu-Ray version will be released later this year.

Since 2008, I have been Co-Editor of Search Journal for New Music and Culture ( and have been involved in various administrative roles with Ensemble Modelo62, an 11-member Dutch contemporary music ensemble (

On the research front, articles and book chapters of mine have recently been published in New Music and Aesthetics in the 21st Century (vol. 8), the Journal of the Japanese Society for Sonic Arts (JSSA), Emille (journal of the Korean Electro-Acoustic Music Society), and Open Space, and presented at ICMC (International Computer Music Conference), KEAMSAC (Korean Electro-Acoustic Music Society Annual Conference), Nagoya City University, University of Tsukuba, NYU, CIRMMT (McGill University), and IRCAM.
