Stanford Students Advance to NATS Cal-Western Semi-Finals

All six Stanford voice students who submitted preliminary videos for the NATS Cal-Western Regional Auditions have advanced to the semi-final round.

The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Cal-Western Region includes Arizona, Utah, California, Nevada, and Hawaii. A record number of 680 students from 99 teachers participated in the video round with the top seven students in each category advancing to the live semi-finals. Join us in congratulating the following Stanford students who will be advancing.

Upper College Musical Theater:

  • Henry Cargill (junior/senior, possible music minor) – TBB category. Teacher: Kathryne Jennings
  • Rachelle Weiss (senior, music major) – Treble category. Teacher: Kathryne Jennings

Upper College Classical:

  • Mack Smith (coterm, music minor) – TBB category. Teacher: Kathryne Jennings
  • Donovan Jasper (coterm, music major) – TBB category. Teacher: Kathryne Jennings
  • Sanjana Khurana (senior, music minor) – Treble category. Teacher: Kathryne Jennings
  • Flora Yuan (senior, music minor) – Treble category. Teacher: Ashraf Sewailam

The semi-final round will take place on Saturday, January 18, at San Jose State University. Students will perform the same four songs from their video submissions – accompanied by Stanford Lecturers/Collaborative Pianists Benjamin Liupaogo and Steven Lightburn – and the top three from each category will advance to the Finals on Sunday, January 19. In this final round, each finalist will perform a 3-minute cut of one song and attending voice teachers in the audience will vote to select the winner who will advance to the national level.
