Music faculty Talya Berger published

Department of Music faculty Talya Berger, Senior Lecturer (Theory), meticulously transcribed and edited the partbooks of the Altemps codex with historical and analytical context for the newly-published Varia Musica Sacra. This scholarly edition of the Altemps codex, published by Società Editrice di Musicologia, gives important insights into performance practices. Varia Musica Sacra comprises works written for Rome's Chiesa di Sant’Aniceto, providing the basis for studies of the relationship between the unique architectural acoustical features of that church and the music written for it.

This work is part of the research project, "Sound, Space and the Aesthetics of the Sublime", involving Stanford's music faculty and students and supported by a Templeton Religion Trust grant.
