Faculty Position Available: Lecturer In Piano

The Department of Music at Stanford University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Piano, beginning on September 1, 2025. This nine-month appointment is a 50% FTE piano lecturer position accompanied by benefits at a corresponding 50% level, in accordance with the part-time status of the position.

  • Have a proven record of teaching individual piano lessons to students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines;
  • Have experience coaching chamber music ensembles;

  • Bring energy and positivity to their interactions, fostering a vibrant and dynamic environment; and
  • Have a vested interest in exploring applications of music beyond the conventional realms.

Bonus qualifications include experience in course design and a proven ability to weave different fields of knowledge into the fabric of their teaching approach.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach intermediate to advanced level piano lessons to music majors, minors, and non-majors;
  • Coach chamber music ensembles consisting of students representing a wide spectrum of experience and ability;
  • Work collaboratively with faculty colleagues and contribute to the long-range goals of the keyboard program;
  • Coordinate and participate in piano juries;
  • Serve on student recital juries;
  • Evaluate audition materials from students applying for admission to Stanford;
  • Maintain an active departmental presence that includes participation in concerts and faculty recitals, and attendance at on-campus performances; and
  • Engage fully with Stanford's scholarly and entrepreneurial environment.

Qualifications/Required Skills:

  • Professional experience equivalent to a Doctorate in Music
  • Distinguished professional reputation and a well-documented history of success as a pianist;
  • Documented success teaching piano in an accredited higher education institution or equivalent professional setting;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • High degree of organization; and
  • Demonstrated interest in community engagement and/or interdisciplinary activities is desirable.

The expected pay range for this position is $51,500 to $53,000 per annum.
