67th Composition Prize of the City of Stuttgart

Andrés Nuño de Buen received first prize for his piece “Leve” for guitar quartet from 2019. Second prizes each went to Rama Gottfried for “Scenes from the Plastisphere” for “video-puppet-instrument and five performers” from the 2018 and Davor Vincze for “XinSheng”, a short opera for soprano, ensemble and electronics from 2021.

As in the previous year, the jury voted in favor of awarding two second prizes. The first prize is endowed with 8,000 euros, the two second prizes with 4,000 euros each. With its decision, the jury underscores the high quality of the three works submitted. In addition, young composers should be supported who, like all individual artists, were and still are severely affected by the Corona-related restrictions.

87 participants submitted a total of 153 works for the 67th Composition Prize. The winning compositions will be performed as part of the award ceremony at the Eclat Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart in February 2023.

Members of the jury were Martina Seeber, representative of Südwestrundfunk, Prof. Martin Schüttler, representative of the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, Annesley Black, composer, Prof. Markus Hechtle, composer, Samir Odeh-Tamimi, composer, Monika Pasiecznik, musicologist , and Boglárka Pecze, clarinettist, Ensemble Trio Catch. Marc Gegenfurtner, Head of the Cultural Office of the City of Stuttgart, chaired the meeting.
