About this event

This livestreamed performance will feature works by Mark Applebaum and Pauline Oliveros, and a world première by Hassan Estakhrian. Performers will be playing from their homes in locations around the U.S. and Europe.

Since the pandemic began, the Stanford New Ensemble has been able to maintain our collective musical activities thanks to JackTrip, free and open-source software developed at CCRMA for low-latency, uncompressed audio. For this new academic year, we have been taking full advantage of the online format, with projects including animated graphic scores and text scores. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with composers Hassan Estakhrian (PicTyourScore 2020 - Pandemic Edition) and Mark Applebaum (The Metaphysics of Notation). Completing the program is Pauline Oliveros's Tuning Meditation, the perfect antidote for the sense of seclusion arising at times from the lockdown: through meditative listening, playing and singing, this sonic gathering will bring participants together in the shared experience of making music collectively.

I would like to wholeheartedly thank Hassan Estakhrian, Constantin Basica, and Mark Applebaum for their inexhaustible support. – Hans Kretz, Director, Stanford New Ensemble
