About this event

In celebration of World Voice Day, please join the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and the Department of Music for conversation with bestselling author John Colapinto on his newest book This is the Voice.

This is one of the first books to explore the miracle that is the human voice. Colapinto thoughtfully examines what our voices reveal about our species, our cultures, and ourselves. We look forward to bringing together clinicians, artists, and academics across our Stanford University community to celebrate our human voice with Colapinto.

About the Author

John Colapinto is a journalist and novelist who moved to New York from his native Canada in 1989. He has been a staff writer for Rolling Stone and the New Yorker and is the author of the bestseller As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Girl and the IMPAC Literary Award nominated About the Author. His other books include Undone: A Novel and the guide book Becoming a Neurosurgeon. His latest book is This Is the Voice. He was raised in a medical family (his father was chief of Urology at Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital, and his eldest brother is a neurosurgeon in Denver) and he attributes this background to his interest, and facility, in writing about medicine and scientific subjects.
