"Figaro's Wedding, or the Count Curtailed"

Figaro's Wedding or The Count Curtailed is a bite-sized version of Mozart's classic, Le nozze di Figaro, which was based on Beaumarchais' 1778 play, a strong critique of late-18th century political, economic, and social inequity and hypocrisy. Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte retained as much of the cultural criticism as they dared, in light of censorship they faced from the Austrian emperor. The opera has since become a favorite and is often hailed as one of the greatest of all time.
Figaro's Wedding, or the Count Curtailed, is half the length of the original opera. Its recitatives, arias, and ensembles are sung in Italian and woven together by a narration in English, encapsulating the plot. This production serves as a perfect "opera outreach" to an audience of all ages.
