About this event

RED

In 2015, Sarah Nemtsov read about the London drummer Kiran Gandhi, who trained for a marathon, and on the day of that marathon, began her period. She ran the marathon without hiding the bleeding. This met with both protest and approval, triggering a variety of discussions.

Female menstruation in RED is a metaphor for hidden pain – whatever gender, culture, or generation. Thus, RED is not only written for or about women, but means much more: a call for empathy – empathy in the sense of the recognition of the other and recognition of their pain.

  • Sarah Nemtsov – idea, concept, composition
  • Heinrich Horwitz – concept, dramaturgy, choreography
  • Carola Schaal – performance, clarinet
  • David Campesino and Javier Sobremazas – cinematography

The exhibition opens Monday, Nov. 4 and runs through Friday, Dec. 13 in the CCRMA Lobby. Our building (The Knoll) is open to the public weekdays during regular business hours (9 AM-5 PM).
