Between Notation and Meaning: Making Interpretive Decisions in Classical-Era Repertoire

This lecture, led by Stanford music faculty Ory Shihor, explores how performers make informed interpretive decisions when the musical score leaves essential elements unspecified. Drawing on Classical-era sources, formal analysis, and performance practice, the discussion examines how notation, style, and context shape choices of articulation, timing, phrasing, and expression.
