The Stanford Summer Symphony is one of three orchestras, along with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Philharmonia, sponsored by the Stanford Department of Music. The SSS meets each July, performing in Bing Concert Hall after a month of twice-weekly rehearsals. Summer Symphony members include Stanford undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and high school students enrolled in Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies and Summer Session. Stanford affiliation is not required for membership, which is determined by audition and is open to musicians of all ages. Usually, the SSS is made up of approximately 70 musicians.
