Stanford Flute Ensemble

The Stanford Flute Ensemble is small group of flutists from the Stanford community that performs a variety of classical and contemporary pieces arranged for C, piccolo, alto and bass flutes. Karen Van Dyke directs the ensemble and has been with the group since it began in 1996. In this time, the ensemble has performed at three National Flute Ensemble conventions in the cities of New York (2009), Anaheim (2010) and Las Vegas (2012). At the New York City convention in 2009, the Stanford Flute Ensemble gave a live national broadcast under the baton of world-renowned flutist Sir James Galway.

Audition required prior to enrollment.

Proficiency Requirements:

  • Previous experience playing in a classical ensemble
  • At least two years of private lessons

Audition Requirements:

  • One prepared solo of the student's choice;
  • Sight reading
