Information for engagement with choral ensembles 2022—2023
Welcome to Stanford! We’re pleased that you are interested in choral ensembles in the Department of Music. Auditions will take place Friday, 23 September through Wednesday, 28 September. Detailed below are plans for our choral ensembles for the 2022-2023 academic year. Signups for auditions for all ensembles, with the exception of Early Music Singers, can be accessed by clicking here after 1 September for the choral audition intake webform. Chamber Chorale (MUSIC 165)
The Stanford Chamber Chorale is a select choir of 24 students dedicated to the performance of virtuosic literature for the small choral ensemble. Its members maintain a rigorous schedule of performing, touring, and recording. 2022-2023 highlights include a two-week concert/study tour to the UK in June of 2023. Members must be currently registered Stanford students.
Chamber Chorale meets Mondays: 12:15-1:15 p.m., Thursdays: 7:00-9:30 p.m.

Early Music Singers (MUSIC 159)
The Stanford Early Music Singers specialize in the performance of choral literature from the Medieval and Renaissance eras. Directed by William Mahrt, a leading expert in chant and Renaissance polyphony, EMS typically numbers approximately 25 members, with smaller groups occasionally drawn from the ensemble. EMS’ repertoire for the year includes a broad range of literature from England and the Continent. Membership is open to both Stanford students and the community at large.

Memorial Church Choir (MUSIC 163)
The Memorial Church Choir performs choral music for Sunday University Public Worship at Stanford Memorial Church, providing the opportunity to explore and perform a wide range of sacred choral music from the Western classical tradition. Special events for the year include the annual Christmas Service of Lessons & Carols. Membership is open to both Stanford students and the community at large.
Memorial Church Choir meets Thursdays: 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. for services.

Symphonic Chorus (MUSIC 162)
With 200 members, Stanford’s Symphonic Chorus is the largest choral ensemble on campus and specializes in the performance of choral masterworks with orchestra. This academic year, the Symphonic Chorus' repertoire includes Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem), Adolphus Hailstork's A Knee on the Neck, and Haydn's Schöpfungsmesse (Creation Mass). Membership is open to both Stanford students and the community at large.
Symphonic Chorus meets Mondays: 7:30-10:00 p.m. with optional sectional rehearsals on Wednesdays: 5:30-6:30 p.m.

University Singers (MUSIC 167)
A select concert choir of 50 members, the University Singers performs a broad range of Western classical music, both a cappella and accompanied by orchestra. Highlights for the year will include gems from British choral repertoire, Faure's Requiem. Membership is open to both Stanford students and the community at large, Stanford students are given priority.

Summer Chorus (MUSIC 167S)
150-voice non-auditioned ensemble performing major choral masterworks and choral repertoire from all periods of Western art music. First rehearsal: Tuesday, 27 June 2023. Additional details will be announced later in the 2022-2023 academic year. Membership is open to both Stanford students and the community at large.
