Journeying Home is a piece for sax quartet which is meant to convey a sense of both a meaningful journey and a fond return. Structured as a theme and variations, it conveys the different feelings which one may have on an adventure, represented as changes to the theme: a sense of intense purpose but also sureness of foot, community, and a bit of humor. Most importantly, the piece’s shift in mood from beginning to end showcases how a person’s character grows from new experiences to reflect new values. — Nicholas Lai
