Visits & Trial Lessons

Before and During the Admissions Application Process

We welcome applicants and prospective applicants to contact members of our faculty to learn more about our programs and what we offer. It’s possible to either in-person or virtually visit a class, observe a lesson, or meet with a faculty member.

Virtual trial lessons (only on-line lessons are available prior to admission) are offered at the discretion and availability of individual faculty members.

Any associated lesson fees are at the discretion of the instructor and remuneration is the responsibility of the student. Faculty contact information can be found in the Faculty Listing section of our website.  Please note that contact with faculty members has no bearing on potential acceptance to Stanford University.

After Admission is Offered

Following an offer of admission to Stanford by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, we welcome admitted students to contact faculty to arrange for any of the above activities as well as to inquire about in-person trial lessons. Trial lessons are available to admitted students depending on the availability of individual faculty members. Any associated lesson fees are at the discretion of the instructor and remuneration is the responsibility of the student.

Admitted, prospective frosh who have been offered a travel grant to attend Admit Weekend may be eligible to have any trial lesson fee covered by the Department of Music.

Please note that trial lessons have no bearing on placement in a studio as this is determined following auditions during New Student Orientation and at the beginning of Autumn Quarter.
