Department of Music Summer Studies

During Summer Quarter, Stanford students may only enroll in zero-unit courses if they have enrolled in another unit- and credit-bearing course. Students are responsible for any tuition and fees associated with an ensemble or applied music lesson for both unit-bearing and zero-unit versions of a course. Zero-unit courses (MUSIC courses with a 'Z' in the catalog number) are not available to Summer Visitors.

Summer Chorus (Music 167S)

150-voice non-auditioned ensemble performing major choral masterworks and choral repertoire from all periods of Western art music. Concert: August 9, 2024 in Bing Concert Hall. Zero unit enrollment option available with instructor permission. See website for policy and procedure. May be repeated for credit for a total of 0 (zero) unit. By enrolling in this course you are giving consent for the video and audio recording and distribution of your image and performance for use by any entity at Stanford University.

Summer Symphony (Music 160S)

Conductor: Paul Phillips

The Stanford Summer Symphony is open to all members of the Stanford community. Although Stanford students are given priority, the Summer Symphony also welcomes musicians from the local and non-Stanford community.

Concert

The 2024 Stanford Summer Symphony will perform its concert on Friday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Bing Concert Hall.

Program

Rehearsals

The Summer Symphony rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. in Dinkelspiel Auditorium beginning on July 2. The dress rehearsals, which run from 7-10pm, will take place on Tuesday, July 30, and Thursday, August 1 in Bing Concert Hall.

Auditions will take place on 17 April 2024 over Zoom, and on other dates TBA in April, May, and June.

Summer Voice Classes (Music 65)

The Department of Music offers an eight-week summer session with classes in Voice starting the week of June 20th. To enroll in Voice classes, please complete the registration form by Friday, June 14th at 4 p.m.
