Certificate in Performance Program Update

As of September 2023, the Department of Music is no longer accepting new applicants to the Performance Certificate Program for Non-Music Majors. This program has been discontinued.

The Performance Certificate program was open by audition to undergraduates who demonstrated a high degree of accomplishment in their area of music performance, studied privately with one of the Department of Music’s faculty, and wished to inform their performance studies with coursework from the Department of Music’s other areas of academic focus: history, theory, computer music, and composition.

The Performance Certificate program afforded a non-music major an opportunity to prepare an adjudicated recital similar to that of a Performance concentration major. The Certificate in Music Performance is conferred by the Department of Music and does not appear on the student’s academic transcript or degree.

Current students should note that the department offers a highly flexible Music minor, and that an instructor-sponsored recital may still be an option, at the discretion of the department and without adjudication.
