Certificate in Performance

As of September 2023, the Department of Music will no longer accept new applicants to the Performance Certificate Program for Non-Music Majors.

The Performance Certificate program is open by audition to undergraduates who demonstrate a high degree of accomplishment in their area of music performance, study privately with one of the Department of Music’s faculty, and wish to inform their performance studies with coursework from the Department of Music’s other areas of academic focus: history, theory, computer music, and composition.

The Performance Certificate program affords a non-music major an opportunity to prepare an adjudicated recital similar to that of a Performance Concentration major. A complete description of the program and course requirements can be downloaded in the PDF below. The Certificate in Music Performance is conferred by the Department of Music and does not appear on the student’s academic transcript or degree.

How to Apply

Students are admitted to the Performance Certificate program based on a live audition adjudicated by Department of Music faculty. Auditions are held at the beginning of every spring quarter. To request an audition, submit a completed application and a music performance résumé to Rowen Leigh, the Department of Music’s Undergraduate Student Services Officer. Applicants will be invited to audition based upon the application and résumé.

The application for academic year 2022-23 (link below) will open in October 2022.
