The Stanford Summer Chorus is a non-auditioned community chorus sponsored by the Stanford Department of Music. Membership is open to everyone; singers typically come from all corners of the Bay Area, and from all age groups and ability levels. The Summer Chorus meets for a short seven-week season, at the end of which a concert is presented in Stanford’s beautiful Memorial Church. This year, the program will feature Morten Lauridsen's lustrous Lux Aeterna for chorus and orchestra, as well as a cappella Russian choral works by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Georgy Sviridov.
Summer Chorus Director Amy Stuart Hunn holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music from Stanford, and is currently completing a doctorate in Choral Studies from USC. This will be her sixth year conducting the Stanford Summer Chorus.
The Stanford Summer Chorus meets on Tuesday nights, 7:15-9:45 p.m., starting on June 23rd. Rehearsals are held in the Braun Music Center (Campbell Recital Hall) on the Stanford campus (Directions here). To sign up, singers simply need to attend the first or second rehearsal. There is a $30 participation fee (waived for Stanford students and faculty). Sheet music will be available for purchase at the first two rehearsals.
The Summer Chorus concert will be held in Stanford Memorial Church on Saturday, August 8th, at 8 p.m. (The dress rehearsal is Thursday, August 6th, 7-10 p.m.)
